Ahhhhh. Normal Illinois.
Long one of my favorite shows;
for some unknown reason it doesn't circulate much.
This show came to me on a DBX encoded reel in 1979.
I was told at the time that it was an edited dub off
the master reel, but listening to it critically,
there's too much hiss for that. I still have that reel,
transfered from it directly to dat. From Dat, it went
through a Digi96 card to my hard disk.
Sound Forge was used to normalize, anti-alias and resample to 44.1,
then CD WAV to track it out. Those WAV files were directly
converted to SHN.
I hope that spreading this copy causes an even better one to
arise out there, because this show deserves some attention.
It has never failed to stop the conversation at any gathering
where I've played it.
Enjoy!

One of my faorites
This show from start to end..... with the "Staying Alive" teaser... is one of the best all times shows. There was an official copy at one point, but this is a really good version. The Dead were on fire this tour.... really rocking it out, and this show is a prime example of that energy. Tune in and enjoy.

WereWolves of 78
I always love when the dead cover this Zevon song...Usually around Halloween. However Jerry's tone in this one esp. at the end. "i'd like to meet his tailor" is funny almost like he really would. AWESOME

Just Amazing
Just getting over the flu today. Turned on this show and wow. Thank you for everybody involved from the recording crew to the post-recording processing, and of course, the band.

a gem from the heartland
a beautiful sunday morning here in the midwest and i am so enjoying this show. me & my uncle w/ a bee gees inspired riff. keyboards are so crisp & clear;i much prefer piano to an organ. It...the roses is as well-played and heartfelt as i've heard...the music never stopped is a classic, i feel this a 'midwest' song and visualize a 76 trombones scene. i caught the tail-end of the 'good ol days' when folks would share addresses, make tapes for each other, etc. but yet this website for me allows this tradition to continue. so many thanks to the folks who contribute time and energy here. And on to the second set where scarlet has such a marvelous dimension with headphones on esp., the whole band is so crisp and clear as individuals. Have a Grateful Day!

"Let it burn"
Sings Garcia thrice around 16 min. into Fire before letting off a blistering solo to close things out. Wow, turn this one up and let 'er chew. Thanks for posting and for all the time transferring. This rocks.

Thank you Mr. McCaw.
This whole show is on Fire!! This is an outstanding
sounding show. I hope your wishes come true and a better source turns up somewhere but, Unless Rhino
releases something, I doubt you'll find a better
sounding show of this.
Thanks again Mr. Mccaw!!

Wonderful sound
This show rocks, the Scarlet fire is right up there with 2-5-8 and 5-25-77.
More importantly, this seems like a singificantly better sounding source than the Charlie Miller one (blasphemy I know).

Wow, It Can Get Better
Of all the new sources flooding the LMA of late, this one is truly one of the best. The show itself is blazing, great versions of many tunes with Jerry on fire from start to finish. What sets this one apart is the clarity and fullness of this recording. Hats off, truly one to be enjoyed by all.
